TV Networks Rooting For Rangers, Blackhawks, Cavaliers In Semifinals

The NBA and NHL’s luckiest fans are still fervently rooting for their favorite teams to go the distance this postseason. And the networks airing the playoffs have their favorite teams too, which should come as little surprise considering how much they’ve invested in the action. Turner and ESPN are paying close to $1 billion each season for their NBA rights – and an upcoming nine-year extension will bump that payout to some $1.6 billion per year – while NBC has a ten-year, $2 billion TV deal with the NHL. That’s quite the investment, but it’s the price networks have to pay to secure the rights to DVR-proof live sports telecasts.
