The number of motorcyclists killed on the nation?s roads is expected to drop for the 2nd year in a row, the first time since 1997. The overall death rate for 2014 is estimated to be 1.8% lower than in 2013. Motorcyclist deaths decreased in 27 states, increased in 19 and remained the same in four and in the District of Columbia.
But motorcycle safety progress still lags behind that of other motor vehicles. Fatalities for motorcycle riders are 26% higher than a decade ago, while other motor vehicle fatalities are 28% lower.
