Two tech entrepreneurs have gone back to the future to help connect Kenya’s slums to the Internet, and they hope, opportunity. More than half a million people populate Mathare, Kenya’s second largest slum. Like any impoverished, overcrowded area, lack of education, jobs, and crime are major problems. Israeli entrepreneur Nissan Bahar and his partner Franky Imbesi are using a solution that’s low tech, by design, to achieve short and long term goals in Kenya’s most vulnerable communities.
