It was March 5, 2015 when I bought 718 shares of Deere & Co. (NYSE: DE) for $90.00 a piece. My investment thesis didn’t involve a complex computer model, technical analysis, or dart throwing. Instead, I admired the company’s brand, balance sheet, and share buyback program. Add to that a P/E under 12 and the grim drumbeat of falling crop prices and it was clear that Deere was well in the wheelhouse of this value investor. Not a steal, to be sure, but a reasonable investment.
